World Men's Curling | Canada defeats New Zealand
(Schaffhausen) – Canadian Brad Gushue improved his record to 4-1 at the World Men's Curling Championship after defeating New Zealander Anton Hood 7-4 in the preliminary round on Tuesday.
The two teams exchanged a point each in the first four games before Gushue stole a point in the fifth game. The Maple Leaf representative added two more points in the sixth end for a 5-2 lead.
Canada was then keen to defend its lead, cutting New Zealand (0-5) to a single point in the seventh end. Gushue added two points in the eighth end before giving up one final point in the ninth game.

In the other matches that were held, the Swiss Yannik Schwaller defeated the Japanese Shinya Abe 10-4, and the Czech Lukas Klima defeated the South Korean Jongduk Park 10-6.
After these duels, Schuler, German Mark Muscatiewicz and American John Schuster tied for fifth place with a score of 3-2. Klima is alone in eighth place with a score of 3-3.
Only the top six teams will qualify for the playoffs.
He will face Gushue Shuster (3-2) at the end of the day.
The preliminary stage of the tournament continues until Friday evening. The medals will be awarded after the mini-final and final scheduled for Sunday.
Canada hasn't won gold at the World Men's Curling Championship since 2017, when Gushue triumphed in Edmonton.
