The Israeli army claims to have besieged Gaza City

In Gaza, the situation is “indescribable,” according to the director of the World Health Organization

The World Health Organization on Thursday denounced several obstacles that significantly limit humanitarian access to the Gaza Strip, which the population and health infrastructure critically need. The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, called for “at least a humanitarian truce and an ideal ceasefire,” saying that the situation “on the ground in Gaza is indescribable,” during a press conference in Geneva.

Moving trucks across borders is one thing, but getting them where they are needed is another.

Dr. Mike Ryan, emergency official within the organization, denounced the obstacles that prevent the distribution of aid when it enters the Palestinian territories. The Irish doctor protested, saying: “It is one thing to transport trucks across the border, it is another thing to get them to where they are needed, and it has not been facilitated or supported, in fact it is the opposite.” He recently visited Egypt, where there is currently the only crossing point with the Gaza Strip.

Aid is accumulating on the Egyptian side

Israel has very strict requirements on what can enter the Gaza Strip, and in Rafah, tons of aid are still piling up on the Egyptian side of the border crossing, waiting to be inspected by Israel, a US official says.

Mike Ryan emphasized: “At the moment, we do not have an effective disengagement process, there is no humanitarian access, and everyone who says that humanitarian aid is arriving, this is not true!”
