New Xbox September Update: New Features and Bad News | Xbox One
Xbox consoles already received an update in September, but a new update has just been announced by Microsoft. As usual, here’s the list of changes and new features to expect.
Storage of game footage is restricted on the Xbox Network
The bad news: Photos and videos stored on your Xbox won’t remain available much longer. Microsoft appears to be willing to make room on its servers since the company announced that Xbox snapshots will be deleted on the network after 90 days, or roughly three months.
So you have to be careful to save your favorite snaps quickly enough or risk seeing them disappear forever. To actually preserve your footage, you’ll have several options:
- Copy your photos and videos to storage media
- Send your photos and videos to OneDrive, Microsoft’s storage service
Press the Xbox button, then go to My games & apps > Apps > Snapshots. You’ll see a “Learn More” button that will help you get started. You’ll also be able to set future snapshots to automatically save to OneDrive, so you’ll never have to wonder if everything was saved correctly.
By default, your OneDrive account stores 5GB of data. You then have to pay €20 per year to access 100GB of storage, and then €69 per year for 1TB of online storage.
The game’s events are highlighted on Xbox Home
Some will see it as a new line of information, others will see it as an announcement, but a new section appears on the Xbox home page. This displays live and upcoming events in games such as one in Halo Infinite.
Applications introduced during the first Xbox configuration
When setting up a new console from the Xbox mobile app or directly on the console, you now have the option to download popular apps like Netflix, AppleTV, Crunchyroll, Disney+, YouTube, and Spotify.
As the image shows, these featured apps are sponsored, meaning brands are paying Xbox to feature them during this first onboarding.
