On the occasion of Science Day, Arts et Métiers, one of the leading engineering schools training leaders in responsible industries, opens the doors of its Paris campus to schools and the general public on Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. to 17 p.m. In the programme: a presentation of the laboratories’ research activities, through workshops, on the topics of energy, health, processes, materials, product design and innovation. *Applying sports and science in the arts and industries laboratories of the Paris Campus* Curious people of all stripes will be able to discover the research activities in the laboratories of the Paris Campus and the latest developments in the topics of energy, health, materials and innovation by registering for a series of exploratory workshops. These workshops are open to the general public and especially to school children, middle school students and high school students from Ile-de-France, and are free but registration is required: Meets on Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 9:30 am to 5 pm Campus Arts et Métiers de Paris 155 boulevard de l’Hôpital, 75013 Paris Registration is free but mandatory: via the following link https://my.weezevent.com/la-science-en-actions-sur-le-campus-arts-et-metiers-de-paris?_gl *3D printing and parasnowboard, the study of plastics, escape cards, electric cars…workshops in various formats and topics* * * Institute of Human Biomechanics Workshops George Czarpak: IBHGC ** • I compare my vertical relaxation to Champions, hosted by Florin Collaud and Paul Labat. 10am-12:30pm and 1:30pm-5:00pm (15 minutes duration) • Ultrasound and Elastography for Biomechanics, led by Claudio Vergari and Pierre-Yves Rohan. This workshop will address the different uses of ultrasound in biomechanics. Participants will learn what ultrasound and elastography are and how they allow us to study soft tissues (muscle, fat, tendons) in the human body. From 10 AM to 12:30 PM and from 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM (15 minutes duration) • Determine the running pattern on the treadmill led by Thomas Bruvot. 10am-12:30pm (15 minutes long) • Parasnowboard, hosted by Xavier Bonnet. This workshop will present how biomechanical assessments allow the analysis of the movements a person makes while snowboarding. The goal is to develop specially adapted prosthetics so that people who have lost a leg can practice this sport. 3 sessions at 2pm, 2:30pm and 3pm (15 minutes duration) **Process and Engineering Laboratory Workshops in Mechanics and Materials: PIMM** • Piezo Noise, led by Marc Rebilat and Frédéric Letelier. The piezo buzzer will detect piezoelectricity in all its forms! After discovering the principle of piezoelectricity, participants will discover how it can be used in many applications ranging from car audio to aircraft monitoring to flight. 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM and 2 PM to 5 PM (30 minutes duration) • Plastic: It’s hot! Led by Mathieu Gervais This workshop will consist of exploring one of the methods of shaping plastic materials: extrusion. By passing it at a high temperature, participants will be able to discover the change in the physical state of the plastic and how to model different shapes. Finally, they will notice the evolution of plastic materials over time and the importance of recycling them in the face of the problems they pose to the environment. 2pm-4:45pm (30 minutes duration) • Metal 3D Printing led by Corinne Dupuy 9:30am-12:30pm and 2pm-5pm (15 minutes duration) • Material Resistance led by Nicolas Rank and Jean-Baptiste Marijon. In this workshop, participants will learn to recognize and differentiate between “brittle materials” and “ductile materials” through applied examples. A hydraulic traction machine capable of applying a maximum force of 100 kN (over 10,000 kg) will be used to test the strength of materials. (duration 30 minutes). Workshop limited to 6 people per session **Lab Fluid and Energy Systems Engineering Workshops: LIFSE** • Presentation of serious escape cards by Sofiane Khalladi, Benedikt Hein, Carol Audrey Petro, Élie Soleil, Mohamed Kabdani, and Amelie Danlos. In this treasure hunt, small groups of 3 or 4 participants will be asked to complete challenges on different platforms to win a small LISFE gift (for example, a pin). Each platform will introduce them to one of the important points of electric vehicle operation: o Electric battery operation o Battery cooling o In-car temperature measurements o In-car “noise” measurements o Echo-free chamber o Different vehicle propulsion solutions (from thermal to electric to hybrid) o The complex system of an electric car and its difference from the thermal system of a car (duration: 30 minutes).
