If many controversies rocked the results, the most striking are those of EDT’s V6 women’s team, which was demoted to second place after a protest by New Zealand’s Aotearoa team, and a two-minute penalty imposed by the organizers for refusing a priority.
The young Tahitians turned their backs on the Hakka, who celebrated the victory of the Kiwi during the awards ceremony. The scene has since been widely shared on social media.
The Tahiti staff filed a complaint in turn… knowing that the International VaA Federation (IVF) could also contest the results.
This is what happened in the case of Nethi Somar. The young Tahitian was world junior champion this morning, until a complaint from IVF and the Safety Committee. Again, New Zealand came out on top.
The management of the Tahitian delegation, about fifty rowers, reserves the right to appeal the decisions of the Organizing Committee. In the provisional rankings, Tahiti still has three gold medals left.
