Microsoft is announcing the Xbox 360 Store is shutting down and closing, this will cease to operate next year and will affect purchased Xbox 360 games as well as movies and TV content. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

The Xbox 360 was launched in 2005, so we’re celebrating its 18th birthday this year. But its story is about to change again as Microsoft prepares to shut down the Xbox 360 Store, with impacts on games and movies. The store is scheduled to close on July 29, 2024. Here is what will happen on that date.

  • Purchasing games, entertainment content, and other entertainment content from the Xbox 360 Store will no longer be possible, either from the console or from the dedicated site.
  • The Microsoft Movies & TV app will not work on Xbox 360, which means that TV and movie content will not be viewable on your Xbox 360. However, purchased movies and contents can be viewed on the app. & TV available on Windows 10 or 11 devices, but also on Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S.

Any content you purchased from the Xbox 360 Store will remain in your library and can be viewed on these devices.

If games can no longer be purchased on this date, they can still be played. Xbox Teams states that content from previously purchased Xbox 360 games will still be available to play, not only on the Xbox 360 console, but also on Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S through backward compatibility.

Microsoft is committed to continuing to support Xbox 360 games in the future and allowing players to redownload previously purchased content and connect with friends.

In short, you can continue to buy games and content from the Xbox 360 Store until July 24, 2024. After that date, this won’t be possible, but you can obviously continue to play all the games you own, on disc or without physical. Coordinate, offline or online with your friends.

Microsoft adds that after July 29, 2024, you will still be able to purchase backward compatible Xbox 360 and Xbox Original games and downloadable content on Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S and Xbox.com.
