Australian and New Zealand rugby delegation visits Saint-Malo

the 2023 Military Rugby World Championship (CMMR) will take place in Brittany from 16 August to 10 September. This international sporting event will bring together more than 500 players and managers for 30 matches played at 26 Breton stadiums. Teams will be hosted at eight locations in Brittany. Among the twelve countries competing are Australia, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Fiji, Ireland, New Zealand or France. The final of the tournament will be held on September 10 in Van (56).

Delegations from Australia and New Zealand passed through Brittany last week. They notably stopped at Dinard, Saint-Malo, and Saint-Père-Marc-en-Poulet. He was delighted with the welcome, says Col. Dennis Patron, from the CMMR Organizing Committee until XV 2023, General Staff officer in the Western District. He sees “a friendly, earnest spirit, team spirit and cohesion that goes well with the spirit of rugby”.

The Australian team’s base camp in Saint-Pierre

Saint-Père-Marc-en-Poulet will host the Australian team as its base training camp, which will be hosted in Dinard. An opportunity for the mayor, Jean-Francis Richeau, to highlight the two rugby pitches and the rugby school in his town.

In every welcoming municipality, cultural and sporting events will be held with foreign teams. In Saint-Malo, there is talk of a beach match. In Saint-Père we are thinking of an exhibition, a conference on the history of “sport – army”, a meeting with young people. The delegations visited sports facilities, stadiums with an integrated irrigation system, changing rooms, meeting rooms, and ancillary facilities such as a pump track or basketball court.
