Windows 11 gets very useful widgets: how to activate them

• Microsoft is currently testing new widgets

It’s been a long time since Microsoft released a new widget for Windows 11. However, as The Verge reports, the new app for developers in the preview phase is quietly installing a series of very useful new tools, accessible from the Tools panel.

In detail, as seen from our side, there are no less than 10 new widgets, which allow you to monitor an aspect of your computer, such as CPU, GPU, memory or network usage.

Either to access data from GitHub (my custom, issues, mentions, pull requests, revision needed…) – or to access the SSH ‘keychain’.

Of course, not everything will work for everyone. What we remember from our side is above all the CPU, GPU, memory and network interface tools that allow you to get to an overview of the state of your system a little faster than going through for example the task manager.

There are other options to also access a mini-tracker that provides an overview of this state information, in particular HWiNFO64. But these new native instruments are particularly clear and easy to access, with the key combination Win + W.

How to access these new widgets?

In fact, these new tools are installed discreetly when testing the new Dev Home app for developers, which Microsoft just announced. The preview version of this app is now available on the Microsoft Store.

Dev Home is a manager that simplifies setting up environments, programming and managing code projects. The application also allows you to create YAML configuration files so that you no longer have to manually configure a virtual machine, for example.

To access these new tools:

• Go to the Microsoft Store from your computer
• Find Dev Home (Preview) and install the app
• Click on your desktop, then Enter keys Win + W To open the toolbar on the left side of the screen
• Click on + at the top of the panel for Add widgets
• Add CPU, GPU (etc) Windgets at your convenience
