SPORTS LOGGING WORLD CUP: TWO FRENCH MANS ON THE BOARD OF ROTTERDAM TO WIN STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS!

In the port of Rotterdam at Onderzeebootloods – the historic underwater shipyard – the world’s 16 best sporting lumberjacks will compete on Sunday, June 10 for the highly anticipated STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® World Cup. The French, who qualified for the European Cup 2022 in Scherhein, will be the ones who will represent the tricolor: Pierre Poirat and Guillaume Moore. Double the possibility of France returning to the medals!

French champion Pierre Poirat and Guillaume Moore face the best athletes in the world!

The World Cup – a competition based on four knockout relay events – made a big return to the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® competition calendar in Vienna (Austria) in 2022. Headlining the 2023 season: New Zealander Jack Jordan who beat former individual world champion Jason Lentz in a thrilling final Watched live by thousands of fans in 2022; And young Swede Emil Hansson, who made a sensational entry into the pros by taking first place on the podium at the 2022 European Cup.

With Pierre Poirat and Guillaume Moore in its ranks, France has a good chance of being on the podium. Pierre Poirat – seven-time French Champion and single-pac European record holder – can make all the difference in the event to break the Cup record of 1’14”48 and climb to the podium! Guillaume Maure – triple vice-champion of France who is on a meteoric rise – could create an upset and climb to the top of the standings, in particular thanks to his favorite event, the Underhand Chop (or horizontal axe).

As a precursor to this competition, it is the sport logging champions who will burn the boards. Even if no French women qualify for this competition, the competition will be exciting, with athletes coming from all over the world, notably Canadian Alison Briscoe, American Irene Lavoe or German Alron Obing, the best European athlete to date.

The weekend will also see, on Friday 9 June, the best young talents in the TIMBERSPORTS® world compete for the World Rookie Championship, but unfortunately France will not be represented this year either. Our best national rookie Loïc Voinson – who has a string of victories and podiums in European competitions – having already competed in these tournaments twice (the maximum number of entries authorized by the regulations).

See you on June 9th and 10th!

About STIHL TIMBERSPORTS®

STIHL Timbersports® is a series of sports scoring systems. STIHL Timbersports ® competitions were created in 1985 in the USA in Europe in 2000. Now the championship is held on four continents and has nearly 2,000 participants from more than 20 countries.

Athletes compete in six disciplines; three with the axe and three with the chainsaw during high-profile international logging events. Classic ax events include Springboard (on jumping boards), Underhand Chop (horizontal axe), and Standing Block chop (vertical axe). For saw and chainsaw competitions, these are the single saw (the main saw), the stock saw (the standard saw) and the hot saw (the extra-powerful competition-grade saw with up to 80 horsepower).
