Transat Paprec 2023: Frozen locations on the road to Saint-Barthlemy

It’s already been 15 days since my competition Transat Pabrik

Concarneau and excitement left her pontoons. The relation to time, to the race and in the mid-Atlantic, is no longer in fact the relation of all those who remain on Earth. Life on the ship is peppered with hours, analysis of meteorological files, and sky observations that say all that maps and files don’t see. The trade winds are not the same as the sunny highway, even if hats and sunscreen are in order. “You have to incorporate and analyze the finer details of the trade winds,” explained this morning Yan Chateau, deputy race director.

The current situation in the ranking

Yann Chateau evokes these differences in winds that can create differences and then storms, above all, that carry not only showers. Indeed, some can make the boats suddenly accelerate: Région Bretagne – CMB Ocane (Chlo Le Bars-Hugo Dhallenne) peak at 13 knots for an hour when the rest of the fleet was at 8 knots – or conversely find themselves slowing dramatically under . These storms also provide a good feel, as explained by Julia Courtois and Mal Garnier (AGEAS-Ballay-Cerfrance-Baie de Saint-Brieuc) in an onboard message: “We had two this Sunday, the first with a 40-degree wind turn and the second that allowed us Nice surfing job! »

On this long track that leads to Saint-Barthélemy, the positions are nevertheless constant. Leading the race since last Saturday, Los Perihar and Charlotte Even (Skipper MACIF) continue to dominate the debates. Two chasers keep up: Corentin Horeau and Pauline Courtois (Mutuelle Bleue, 2H) which is 2.4 miles away and Rgion Bretagne – CMB Performance (Gaston Morvan – Anne-Claire Le Berre) which is 9.1 miles away in the grand arrondissement and 16 miles to the north.

Normandy Region (Guillaume Berruel – Sophie Faget, 4H, 24.9 miles), Cap Anglic (Camille Bertel – Pierre Lebucher) 50.5 miles and EDENRED (Basile Bourgnon – Violet Durange) 54.5 miles from the chasing battalion. Brittany Region – CMB Ocane (Chlo Le Bars – Hugo Dhallenne, 7H 74.4 miles), AGEAS – Balay – Cerfrance – Bay of Saint-Brieuc (Mal Garnier – Julia Courtois, 8H 100.2 miles) and MonAtoutnergie. Father (Arthur Hubert – Colombe Julia, 9H 136.7 miles) is farther away.

Hell game at the back of the peloton

Behind a match between Race for Science – Verder (Alicia De Pfyffer – Douard Golbery, 10H) and Groupe Helios – Du Lman l’Ocan (Arnaud Machado – Lucie Queruel, 11H) in order to avoid finishing the Red Lantern. The duel is particularly interesting, especially since they each decided on a very distinct path: Alice and douard are getting closer to the direct route when Lucie and Arnaud decide to take a more southerly route to catch stronger winds. “It’s a great match: we have a rival that we can play with and he’s a motivator, he pushes us to work hard and give everything,” Douard explained during the radio session this morning. Don’t pass in front of us before arriving! »

The edge of the race for science – Werder, it’s a question of water resources. They only have 40 liters left to finish, which is 2 liters per day and per person. But they also need it to make their own freeze-dried meals! “When you’re up 20 hours a day, you only have about two liters less,” douard recognizes. It doesn’t hide a form of fatigue to be content with just freeze-dried dishes. “It’s not very nutritious and everything tastes the same. I’m always hungry! For their part, Julia Courtois and Mal Garnier (AGEAS-Ballay-Cerfrance-Baie de Saint-Brieuc), have only one package of sweets on board. Sure enough, the small pleasures of the earth are running short in the heart of the Atlantic!
