21-year-old Liam Lawson is starting his Super Formula campaign perfectly. The 2021 DTM Vice Champion and third FIA Formula 3 champion in 2022 decided to migrate to Japan to continue pursuing his dream of entering Formula 1 in the coming years.
To achieve this goal, Liam Lawson has been supported by Red Bull since 2019, who have integrated him into the junior team. In Japan, Energy Drink placed him on the defending champions, Team Mugen. Moreover, his teammate, double reigning champion Tomoki Nojiri, finished second in that first race not far from Mount Fuji after finishing first.
The podium was completed by Rao Harakawa (Team IMPUL). Another rookie of the 2023 season, Turkish center Cem Bolukbasi (TGM Grand Prix), is ranked 8th despite failing to qualify (20th). The only Frenchman to enter Super Formula, Giuliano Alessi (Toms Team), retired after colliding with Neri Fukuzumi (Three Bond Racing) six laps from goal.
The second Super Formula race will take place on Sunday 9 April.
