New headquarters for Collège Montmorency in… Espace Montmorency

Since January, some courses of Collège Montmorency have been held at the Espace Montmorency, a multifunctional complex located a few steps from the Laval-des-Rapides school institution.

“We are not moving,” says Olivier Simard, general director of the Collège Montmorency. We are expanding our borders by taking over a new space, the Espace Montmorency.

This 51,000+ square foot space over two floors partially responds to cegep’s lack of space.

In addition to the 12 classrooms specifically for courses in business administration, accounting, and management techniques programs, the new buildings include two computer labs, teachers’ offices, meeting rooms, staff areas, as well as staff quarters. General Administration and General Office The General Secretariat and the Institutional Performance and Innovation Office which also includes the Communications team.

Some administrative spaces will be freed up by this move and converted into classrooms within CEGEP.

Just one step

“The story does not end there, the adventure is already under way and is in line with our Horizon 2026 strategic plan,” says Olivier Simard enthusiastically.

“Espace Montmorency is only one step, and there will be others,” he continues, winking at Pascal Dery, Minister of Higher Education, who was present at the launch event on Monday 3 April.

The construction of a new wing in collaboration with the Société québécoise des Infrastructure (SQI) should be completed in 2029 and put an end to this teaching space issue.

The minister adds: “It is more than an academic course, it is a living environment. It is very important to have dynamic and inspiring spaces as well as conducive places to learn, especially in a context of labor shortages.”

Town centre

Located at 777, avenue le Corbusier, Espace Montmorency aspires to be a true living environment well-established in the center of the developing city around the Montmorency metro station and the Laval Campus of the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM) and the University of Montreal (UdeM).

“Seeing a major institution like the Collège Montmorency take over the city center of Laval fits perfectly with our vision,” says Alexandre Warnet, representative of the Mayor of Laval and councilor of the commune of Laval des Rapids. This new place of knowledge will play an important role in regional economic development.”

The deployment of the new headquarters of Cégep Lavallois within this complex was made possible by the financial support of the Government of Quebec, which moreover provided a 5% increase in funding for CEGEPs in its most recent provincial budget.
