Tour of Catalonia | Guillaume Boivin, lead actor in the fourth stage
Guillaume Boivin (Israel – Premier Tech) moved the show around at the end of stage four of the Tour of Catalunya by finding himself at the front of the peloton. Quebec set the table for fellow New Zealander Corbin Strong who finished third in the mass sprint.
From the first moments of the stage, a group of five riders attacked to escape and survived until 4km from the finish where they were swept away by the peloton.
After being actively involved in retrieving escapees, Boivin continued his role as a teammate by leading Strong and Ottawan Michael Woods towards the sprint in the final meters separating them from the finish line.
Strong fought hard, but was eventually outpaced by Australian Caden Groves (Alpecin-Deusoninck), the winner of the stage, as well as Frenchman Brian Coquard (Cofidis), second of the day.
“It was a good day for us, but it was tough again. We dominated the peloton traffic for a good part of the day and went out there for a sprint with Corbin Strong. It was so close!” Boivin commented in an interview with Sportcom.
For his part, Montrealer crossed the finish line at 36H score, while Michael Woods finished 23rdH place.
Personally, I am satisfied with my working day. I managed to get the job done for my teammates. It’s a great team performance, it’s good for morale and confidence. We keep working hard, and hopefully we can do better next time.”
With three stages to go by the end of the Tour de Catalunya, Michael Woods is now sixth in the provisional general classification, 48 seconds behind Slovenian leader Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma). Guillaume Boivin for his part 130H (+44 minutes 41 seconds).
The fifth stage will be held on Friday at a distance of 176.6 km between Tortosa and Mirador del Portel.
