President of the National Assembly meets the Diaspora in New Zealand
On Monday, December 5 in Wellington, the President of the Vietnamese National Assembly, Vuong Dinh Huê, on an official visit to New Zealand, met with representatives of the Vietnamese community in New Zealand.

The Speaker of the National Assembly of Vietnam, Phuong Dinh Hue, expressed his pleasure at making his first official visit as Speaker of the National Assembly, the first visit also by a senior Vietnamese leader after the National Party’s 13th National Congress and the first since the establishment of the Vietnam-Strategic Partnership for New Zealand in 2020.

The senior legislator highlighted the 47-year course of relations that the two countries will celebrate in 2025, naming Vietnam as the first country in the Asia-Pacific region with which New Zealand has established a strategic partnership. On her part, the Governor-General of New Zealand, Dame Cindy Kerro, appreciated Vietnam’s position on the same day and emphasized the desire to strengthen bilateral relations.
The Vietnamese community in New Zealand consists of 10 to 11,000 individuals, including 2,700 students, and they observe the laws of the country of residence, promote mutual assistance among themselves and encourage activities oriented towards the motherland, said the president of the Vietnamese Association of Wellington, Nguyen. Fan Tai.
The official expressed the wish that the Party and the state continue to pay attention to and promote economic exchanges between the two countries and work towards overseas Vietnamese so that they can carry out more exchange activities.
The President of the Vietnamese National Assembly said that the Governor-General of New Zealand, Mrs. Cindy Kerro, conveyed his good appreciation to the Vietnamese community in New Zealand.
Vuong Dinh Hue reminded Politburo Decision No. 36-NQ/TW on Vietnamese work abroad and Conclusion No. 12 on Vietnamese work abroad, before asking the Embassy of Vietnam to do this job well and pay attention to the protection of citizens.
He said that he had met a number of Vietnamese companies operating successfully in New Zealand, and citizens who are considering importing products of Vietnamese origin, believing that the trade target of $2 billion is still modest compared to Vietnam’s foreign trade, which is estimated at more than $700 billion in 2022.
He said that good political and diplomatic relations between the two countries are the basis, and the two sides share many strategic values, not only at the bilateral level but also at the regional and global levels, noting that economy, trade and investment drive bilateral relations.
