During an exclusive interview with franceinfo and aired on Saturday 12 November, TotalEnergies CEO Patrick Pouyani spoke about his strategy, after he was arrested on Friday 11 November by environmental activists at COP27.

“Our world lives on fossil fuels, and we think we’re going to change the system overnight that doesn’t work,” said Patrick Boyani. The CEO of TotalEnergies gave an interview to franceinfo.

In this interview published on Saturday, November 12, the senior president of the gas giant spoke at length about his strategy in addressing climate issues.

In response to a question from African and Ukrainian activists the day before during COP27, Patrick Boyani explained his attendance at the annual conference: “Being at the COP is a sign that we are taking things very seriously,” he said.

He continued, “If I’m present, it’s because I think we have to face problems. We know that fossil fuels are part of the problems.”

“If we stop doing our job (…) prices will continue to go up,” says Boyani.

According to the TotalEnergies director, fossil fuels are “part of the solution”: “We have the means to eliminate methane emissions, we have the technologies, and it is up to us to do that,” he said.

The CEO noted the importance of a “good balance” between the short and medium term: “I understand that people are the problem. The reality today is that our citizens and our citizens want all the gas and energy every day. So there is a kind of contradiction between the short and medium term.”

With regard to gas production, Patrick Boyani said that his interruption would hurt prices, which will continue to rise: “Everyone will be angry. Even the International Energy Agency is asking us to produce more for next year,” confirmed TotalEnergies CEO. .

Patrick Boyani spoke of a carbon-neutral energy system, while providing consumers with the energy they need: “This is the challenge, full of opportunity, that we must take on,” he concluded.
