The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) warns that listeria may spread in “Spanish-style” cheese

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is warning people to stay away from the Latin-style cheese believed to be linked to the listeria outbreak that has spread in New York.

On Friday, the agency said that it had not identified the specific source of the virus, But he suspects the exact type of cheese involved.

“Do not eat any soft and fresh Spanish-style cheeses (such as fresco, queso blanco, and queso panela) until we have identified a specific type or brand that makes people sick,” the agency wrote in an advisory report on Friday.

Seven people between the ages of 45 and 75 fell ill and were hospitalized with the disease between October 20 and February 11, according to the CDC.

Six cases have been identified this year. Four are found in Maryland, one in Virginia, one in New York, and one in Connecticut.

At least four people interviewed by health officials reported consuming at least one Spanish-style fresh cheese before they got sick.

The agency said that pregnant women and those 65 and older are at greater risk of contracting serious illnesses from the bacteria and can experience minor symptoms such as fever, fatigue and muscle aches – as severe as suffering from a miscarriage.
