Jake Dennis wins first race of the London ePrix

The British driver won ahead of Stoffel Vandoorne and Nyck de Vries in the first race of the London ePrix. The second race is scheduled for Sunday.

Britain’s Jake Dennis (Andretti) won the first race of the London E Prix on Saturday, ahead of Belgian Stoffel Vandoorne (Mercedes) who consolidated his championship lead.

France’s Jean-Eric Vergne (DS-Techeetah) and Switzerland’s Eduardo Mortara (Venturi), Vandoorne’s championship rivals, couldn’t do better than 13th and 19th places while there were still three races left. As a result, it was New Zealander Mitch Evans (Jaguar), 6th on Saturday, who finished second in the provisional classification.

Starting in first place, Jake Dennis dominated the race without being threatened by his co-runners. For good measure, he scored an extra point on the fastest lap of the race.

The podium was completed by another Mercedes driver, Dutchman Nick de Vries.

Vergne, who started 13th on the net, was held back by back-to-back clashes first with fellow Portuguese Antonio Felix da Costa and then with Swiss Sebastien Buemi (Nissan) who was given a 5-second penalty due to his liability.

In the tournament, Vandoorne now has 173 points ahead of Evans (147), Mortara (144) and Virgin (128).

A second race is scheduled for Sunday at the same circuit with a start at 3:00 pm local time (4:00 pm French time).
