Two more runners test positive for Covid 19
On Monday, during a rest day in Carcassonne, the UCI announced that two other riders in the Tour de France peloton, who are not at the top of the classification, have tested positive for Covid-19. All riders underwent a detection test on Sunday evening after the 15th stage and on the eve of the rest, as it did in Morzine (Haute-Savoie) last Monday.

“The two riders in question are not in the top 20 of the overall classification of the event. While these runners are completely asymptomatic, security measures (runners are isolated) have been put in place to protect the other participants,” the UCI said.

“The final decision on their participation after the event will be taken collectively by the parties involved (event physicians, Covid-19 teams and the UCI medical director),” added the International Federation. Eight riders had to leave the tour from the start due to the coronavirus. Dane Magnus Cort Nielsen (EF Education) and Australian Simon Clarke (Israel PT) returned home on Sunday, following New Zealander George Bennett, Norway’s Vegard Stake Laengen (UAE), Australian Luke Durbridge (BikeExchange) and France’s Geoffrey Bouchard (AG2R Citroën) and Guillaume Martin (Cofidis) and Warren Bargwill (Arkia Samsik).
During the first day of rest before the Alps, all tests gave a negative result.
