On the initiative of Jacques Nessi, Jean-Jacques Cadet and Jean-Hugues-Henries, an international interdisciplinary symposium on global health, science and health security policy will be organized on 24 and 25 May 2022 at the Sorbonne (Campus Pierre and Marie Curie. 4 Place Jussieu 75005 Paris). In this hybrid event (face to face / video conference), Professor Renaud Piaro will be honored for his work on cholera in Haiti.


The first day of the symposium will be devoted to epidemics, world population and health issues. At the opening ceremony, from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., Renaud Piaro, a biologist specializing in infectious and tropical diseases, a professor at the Sorbonne Medical School, and a researcher at the Pierre-Louis Institute of Epidemiology and Health will be honored for his work. on cholera in Haiti. The author of “Cholera. Haiti 2010-2018: A Story of Disaster”, in a report released at the end of a mission in Haiti, confirmed that the infectious focus of the cholera epidemic had left the Nepalese peacekeepers camp, in the management of the center.


On the same day, honors will also be paid to Dr. Paul Farmer, Late Anniversary, and Ms. Michel Duvivier-Pierre-Louis, President of FOKAL (Fondasyon Konesans ak Libète)


During the first day of the symposium, ideas will focus on the universal right to health and the limits of international commitment. Ricardo Sittenfos, Diplomat, Professor Vacoldade de Direto de Santa Maria (Fadisma) will talk about Impossible Immunity: UN Peace Operations Facing the Law while Piero Delin, Diplomat and University Professor, will talk about UN Intervention Procedures and Implications for Host Countries: Case Haiti.


At midday, at 20-minute intervals, experts will talk about the environmental factors that can lead to the persistence of cholera in Haiti and the quarantine procedures in Haiti during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Jean Hughes Henrys, MD, Director of the Research Team in the Ecology of Infectious and Tropical Diseases (EREMIT), College of Health Sciences, University of Quiscoa, will estimate the cost of the cholera epidemic in Haiti.


After the 3pm break, thoughts will focus on Covid-19, such as the New World Order. James Boyard, a professor at Haiti State University, will assess the issues and challenges of regulating Covid-19 in a republican, democratic and liberal nation. 6:30 pm. With Floris Nessi, MD and Dr. Elder Pierre, physician, infection specialist and pharmacist, the latter panel will discuss self-treatment with medicinal plants and Covid-19 in Haiti: partial results or placebo effect.


During the second day, pandemics, geopolitics, history and tensions between profit, health and economic interests will be at the center of discussions. At 9:30 a.m. Jean-Marie Teudet, of the Sorbonne, will speak on the geopolitics of health in the age of epidemics, the example of Haiti.


Haitian and foreign specialists present at this seminar will reflect on the economic logic and the rectitude of actors from the perspective of history, in relation to epidemics. Epidemiology, Science and Crisis Management will be the midday topic.


At the end of the day, and before the seminar concludes, Rhodade Gustave, PhD student in Legal History (co-supervision of Grenoble Alpes University / Haiti State University) attached to Laboratories: CESICE / LADREP, will focus on the violation of fundamental freedoms to adhere to and encourage vaccination. While Raymond Raymond, a doctoral student at the University of Quisqueia, will talk about Haiti, between political problems and health issues: effective governance remains a challenge for Haiti’s public authorities.
