Flèche Ardennaise returns on May 8, after two years of absence – Cyclisme

The Flèche Ardennaise (UCI 1.2) has been canceled for the past two years due to the health crisis, and will return to cycling news on May 8.

The start of the race (12:15 pm) for the elite and spectators will be moved from Herve to Stavelot, where the finish will also be judged 180 kilometers into the race. Seventeen climbs of the “Ardennes”, representing an altitude of 3,900 metres, including a few ascents from Liege-Bastogne-Liege (Wann, Haute Lévi, Rosier, Stocaux), will spark debates. 29 teams of 6 riders compete in the 57th edition of the Flèche Ardennaise, including 13 Belgian teams and 16 foreign teams. Among the main runners to follow, organizers on Tuesday noted, while introducing the race, France’s Romain Gregoire, recent winner of the Liège-Bastogne-Liège U23, and New Zealander Robin Thompson, second of the Ardennes, at Groupama-FDJ as well as, among others, Belgian Lennert van Eetvelt (Lotto-Soudal), second in Liège-Bastogne-Liège U23 and Norwegian Johannes Staune-Mittet (Jumbo-Visma). The last winner of the Flèche Ardennaise is the Swiss Simone Peloud, who in 2019 beat France’s Romain Bacon and Switzerland’s Martin Schabe.
