World Qualifiers 2022 – New Zealand advance to the Intercontinental Qualifiers

(Belga) New Zealand won the 2022 World Cup qualifying final in the Oceania region by defeating Solomon Islands 5-0 on Wednesday in Doha, bringing them to the intercontinental play-off against a representative from the CONCACAF region.

The Oceania Zone qualifiers were held in Qatar and the final was played on Wednesday at a nearly empty stadium. Unsurprisingly, the New Zealanders dominated their opponents thanks to goals from Bill Tuiluma (23, 69), Chris Wood (39), Joe Bell (50) and Matthew Garbet (90+1). New Zealand will now play fourth in North America, Central America and the Caribbean, the last of which is Wednesday night (Wednesday-Thursday night in Europe). In this area, Canada has already qualified (28 points). The United States (25 points), Mexico (25 points) and Costa Rica (22 points) are competing for the last two cards of Qatar’s direct qualifiers and the venue for the play-off. The intercontinental play-off will take place on June 13 or 14, still in Qatar, the host country. The World Cup draw will be held on Friday, without knowing all the qualifiers. (Belga)
