Maribor trials moved to Kranjska Gora

The International Ski Federation has announced that Maribor events scheduled for January 8 and 9 that have been canceled due to weather will finally take place in Kranjska Gora.

Slovenia qualified for the Women’s Ski World Cup stage! The International Skating Union announced, Thursday, the cancellation of the giant slalom and slalom race scheduled in Maribor on January 8 and 9 due to weather conditions. Sitting only 275 meters above sea level, the Slovenian resort cannot count on enough snow cover (the temperature is expected to reach 12°C on this last day of the year) to host the World Cup stage. This is the third consecutive season that Maribor has been kicked off the calendar, and as in 2020 and 2021 it is its neighbor from Kranjska Gora who is retaking the races. The FIS already announced on Friday that the Slovenian station located 200 kilometers from Maribor and at an altitude of 806 meters will already be the giant’s stage on January 8 and the slalom 9 last season, it was the Italian Marta Pacino, who triumphed through the two giants on the list of the Kranjska Gora theater, New Zealand’s Alice Robinson (giant) and Slovakian Petra Vlhova (in the slalom) won there the previous year.

Shiffrin and Vlhova are expected at Kranjska Gora

This year Petra Vlova is expected to win three slalom races, and Killington title winner Mikaela Shiffrin, particularly between the Slovenian poles, while the Giant looks more open, with three skaters winning this season: Shiffrin (twice) as well as Sweden’s Sarah Hector and France’s Tessa Worley, no later than last Tuesday in Linz. Before the Kranjska Gora stage, the Women’s World Cup will stop near Zagreb on Tuesday, for a slalom. Meanwhile, the men will have an appointment to slalom in Zagreb on Wednesday, before heading to Adelboden in Switzerland for the giant slalom and slalom race over the weekend. The Swiss station has just received the green light from the FIS.
