How to share storage space with family members

Google One has been replacing Google Drive’s paid subscription offerings for some time. However, if many people use Google services at home, including Google Photos and Google Drive, Google offers an option that should interest you: It is already possible to share your account benefits with up to 5 members of your family. Note that they do not have access to your files stored on Google Drive or your photos. Unless you voluntarily share it, of course.
How to share Google One with family
It’s very easy to share your Google Drive subscription with your loved ones:
- Go to https://families.google.com/ and sign in, if necessary, with your Google account
- Click the button Continue in
- Click on Create a family group
- Invite your family members. Note that you can skip this step at first and add people later.
If all goes well, you should now see the screen above. However, if your loved ones respond to the invitation, they will not yet be able to access the benefits of your Google One account. To do this:
- Go to this address: https://one.google.com/settings
- Click on Manage family related settings
- Activate the option Share Google One with family

Now, the loved ones you invited will be able to take advantage of the benefits of your Google One account. Concretely, if they exceed the 15 GB free quota, they will eat up the extra storage you pay for a subscription with. You can view the storage that each member of your family uses in the Storage section of your Google One account.
