2024 Olympics: New Zealand files complaint with IOC after 'spying' on Canada
A training session for the New Zealand women's Olympic football team in Saint-Etienne, France, was disrupted by a drone flown by a member of the Canadian team's staff. The two teams are scheduled to face each other in Group A on Thursday.
“The team’s fans immediately reported the incident to police, which led to the arrest of the drone pilot, who was identified as a member of the Canadian women’s soccer team,” the Canadian National Olympic Committee said in a news release Tuesday. The Canadian team has apologized and the matter is under investigation, according to the committee.

The Canadian Olympic Committee said it was notified of the incident involving “an unaccredited member of the Canada Football Team” and added that it would discuss what action to take in consultation with the International Olympic Committee, Paris 2024, Canada Football and the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).
“The Canadian Olympic Committee stands for fair play and we are shocked and disappointed. We sincerely apologize to the New Zealand Football Federation, all players involved and the New Zealand Olympic Committee,” the Canadian Olympic Committee said in a statement. “We are reviewing the next steps with the International Olympic Committee, the Paris Games, the Canadian Soccer Association and FIFA.”
