Unusual aspects to Alta Orlando’s pedigree and a possible explanation

Alta Orlando has been in very good form just lately and recorded his fourth win for the Dunn stable and eighth overall when he could not be separated from Eamon Maguire at Addington last week.

On the face of it Alta Orlando would appear nothing out of the ordinary on the score of breeding. He is a son of Courage Under Fire and the first foal from a useful filly performer in Western Australia in La Joconde, who was imported at a time when Tony Dickinson was attempting to “ramp up” the quality of his breeding programme for the yearling sales. What is quite unusual and surprising about Alta Orlando’s pedigree however is the fact that La Joconde is only four genera…
