Salamanca is in the right form to repeat his Riccarton win of three years ago.

After a gap of three years, history could repeat for the Mike Breslin-trained Salamanca at Riccarton Park on Saturday. On the opening day of the 2015 Grand National carnival, the Awapuni gelding finished runner-up to Scapolo in the open 1200 before winning the open 1400 a week later. Both races were run on a slow track. The scene for a repeat was set last Saturday when the favourite Scapolo held out second favourite Salamanca by three-quarters of a length over 1200 metres.
