If you drew up a list of current trainers whose tales and life story would make a good book, Curly Thomas would be right at the top. The 78-year-old Invercargill trainer, who started working in a stable shortly after World War 2 ended, has an endless array of tales from his career as a bloodstock agent and trainer. It’s in the latter vocation that he still potters around and he was back in the winner’s circle at Winton last Saturday when Grace O’Malley did the business. …
