Rising Red has been ruled out of the Gr. 2 Brisbane Cup.
Busuttin Racing announced on Twitter today that the last-start Premier's Cup winner had heat in one of his joints following a track gallop on Tuesday and was out of Saturday's 2200-metre race.
"Connections are disappointed not to be running, but the horse's welfare comes first," Busuttin Racing said.
Last year's New Zealand Derby runner-up returned to racing earlier this year after a year off the scene through injury.
The Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young-trained four-year-old raced five times this preparation and was placed in the Gr. 3 JRA Plate at Randwick and Gr. 3 Chairman's Handicap at Doomben before winning the Gr. 3 Premier's Cup.
Rising Red's scratching leaves a field of nine for the Brisbane Cup. Japanese import Ambitious is the $2.80 favourite.
