Natalie Rasmussen (left) will take over from Mark Purdon as Lazarus' driver in this week's Miracle Mile.
For only the second time in the champion pacer's career, someone other than Mark Purdon will drive Lazarus in the A$750,000 Miracle Mile at Menangle on Saturday night.
He has handed the reins to his partner, Natalie Rasmussen, who has accumulated an outstanding record in feature races at Menangle in recent years.
“I think Natalie was quite excited when I told her,” Purdon laughed.
“We’ve done it before with good success and with the pressure of a wide draw and him carrying so much support I wanted to do the best by the horse, the owners and the punters at the end of the day.
“I need to be able to put 110 percent into getting him ready for this race and to be frank, I just can’t do that when I also have to worry about how I am going to drive him."
