A colt bred on the same cross as a New Zealand-bound stallion has won the French Derby overnight.

The Pascal Bary-trained three-year-old Study Of Man is a son of Deep Impact out of a Storm Cat mare, the same cross as the Group One winner Satono Aladdin, who is to shuttle from Japan to Rich Hill Stud this spring.

Raced by the Niarchos family, Study Of Man won the Chantilly classic at the expense of Patacoy, who is by Wootton Bassett. That horse's son Almanzor won the 2016 French Derby and will be standing this year at Cambridge Stud.
