Classy galloper Hiflyer has arrived in Sydney, 24 hours later than originally planned.
Hiflyer has belatedly arrived in Sydney ahead of his Australian debut in Saturday’s Winter Stakes at Rosehill.
The Tavistock gelding had been booked to fly across the Tasman early yesterday, but a series of flight cancellations and hold-ups threw a scare into the camp.
“I can tell you he’s just arrived safely now,” trainer Peter Lock told www.theinformant.co.nz from Sydney late this morning.
“We had a few mishaps along the way with the flights, but it’s good to have him here now. He looks good, we’ve been happy with him and hopefully we’re still on track for Saturday.”
Hiflyer is the winner of nine of his 21 starts and more than $279,000 in prize-money. He has won two Group Three races this season and placed in the Gr. 1 Thorndon Mile at Trentham, and he was a last-start winner under 61.5 kilograms at Ruakaka.
The five-year-old is the topweight for Saturday’s A$150,000 Listed event with 59.5 kilograms. He will be partnered by his regular rider Johnathan Parkes, who has been aboard in nine of his starts for five wins and three placings.
