The New Zealand Cup looms as a possible target for Comin’through, who has returned to work in the Ruakaka stable of Chris Gibbs and incoming training partner Michelle Bradley.
The Bullbars gelding had an easy 800-metre gallop this morning in partnership with stablemate Furious Walk, and Gibbs told www.theinformant.co.nz that the $225,000 staying showpiece at Riccarton in November was a logical target.
“That’s the plan at this stage and we’ll just see how we go,” he said.
Comin’through has won three of his 27 starts and more than $135,000 in prize-money. While he went winless in a 12-start campaign this season, he placed on four occasions and was a close fourth behind stablemate Richie McHorse in the Listed Hawke’s Bay Cup. He was also seventh, only 1.5 lengths from the winner Ladies First, in the Gr. 1 Auckland Cup.
Comin’through could be part of a strong Ruakaka contingent in the New Zealand Cup, with stablemate Jake The Muss heading the same way, along with the in-form Major Tom from the stable of Kenny and Lisa Rae and Krystal Williams. The Rae/Williams team finished third in last year’s New Zealand Cup with Kaharau.
