Piece of Mind: When Art Enters into Parkinson’s Disease Research أبحاث

For six years, Ms. Coleman has worked with mice in the lab to understand how genetic factors can alter the brain and lead to Parkinson’s disease. Inspired by the beauty of neurons under the magnifying glass of a microscope, I began to think of a way to use art to raise awareness of disease-related issues.

A place to share knowledge

But according to Neyla Coleman, the therapeutic aspect of art is not the essence of the mind piece. In this project, I am not using dance as a therapy tool. The goal is to use creativity, art, dance, and movement to establish a connection between communities that don’t talk much to each other., like scientists who spend all their time in the lab and people who live with Parkinson’s disease every day.

This is why the group brings together scientists, artists, and people with the disease. The show, which mixes dance, circus and music, attempts to artistically represent the different symptoms and stages in the development of Parkinson’s disease. Ms. Coleman hopes he can engage audiences intellectually and emotionally, while instilling in them a new sympathy for those dealing with disease.

For me, art, especially performing arts like dance, circus, and music, is a way to communicate science, which can be very abstract and very complex. It’s a way to organize it for people who don’t have access to research papers.
