Hiflyer will cross the Tasman early next week ahead of a shot at the Listed Winter Stakes at Rosehill on July 14.

The high-class Tavistock gelding, a multiple Group Three winner and Group One-placed, returned to racing with a powerful win at Ruakaka two weeks ago. Carrying 61.5 kilograms, he charged home from an awkward position to score with ease. He clocked 1:10.22 for 1200 metres with his last 600 in 33.94 seconds.

“We’re very, very happy with him,” trainer Peter Lock told www.theinformant.co.nz. “He bounced through that race extremely well. After a day or two he was right back to his old self. He’s all set to fly to Sydney on Monday.

“The plan is for him to line up the following Saturday at Rosehill – there’s a 1400-metre Listed race worth A$150,000.”

Hiflyer has won nine of his 21 starts, placing in another eight for prize-money earnings in excess of $279,000. He won the Gr. 3 Thompson Handicap and Eagle Technology Stakes earlier this season, and finished third in the Gr. 1 Thorndon Mile.
