Three-year-old filly Burgundy Belle has been earmarked for a possible tilt at black type after her impressive debut victory in the Nulook Aluminium Maiden at New Plymouth today.

The daughter of Burgundy jumped away well from barrier two for rider Shafiq Rusof. She loomed wide at the turn and ran away from her competition, winning by five and a half lengths.

“She was very impressive and it’s really good to get a win for John (Galvin) and the Fortuna team,” racing manager Libby Richards said. “She’s a bit of a favourite at home and we hope to see her, maybe, in a stakes race in the next few months.”

That could involve a tilt at the Gr. 3 Mongolian Khan Trophy at Ellerslie next month, which Fortuna won with Melody Belle earlier this year.
