Matamata Cup favourite Sherrif followed outstanding Tuesday work with an easier but no less impressive final workout this morning.

Galloping on the plough Sherrif strode nicely from the 1400m in 1:40.2 completing the final 600m in 40.1 He stormed home late for fourth fresh and has improved in the interim. He looks a top prospect provided the track conditions remain reasonable.

Authentic Paddy rounded off his Livamol Classic preparation with a very satisfactory final gallop at Awapuni this morning. The majority of fast work took place on the plough (good), where Authentic Paddy worked alone over a solid 1000m in 1:6.3, the last 600 in 37.8. He is reunited on Saturday with Trudy Thornton, who has not ridden the gelding since his third placing in the Foxbridge Plate at Te Rapa four starts ago. Connections were hoping for a better draw but, despite that and his present form, he has the knack of putting in the big effort when it counts the most.
